The Rules and FAQ

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

Do I have to order every week?
No.  Order only on the weeks when you want to pick up an order.

Can I just place a standing order?
No.  We require you to tell us what you want, on the weeks that you want it.

Can I have you pick my produce for me like a traditional CSA?
Yes.  Just select the "Farmer's Pick Box," and you will receive a pre-selected group of items like a traditional CSA.

Do I have to get the Farmer’s Pick box where the farm chooses the contents?
No.  Some of our members like us to choose, and others would rather do it themselves.  Even if you select the Farmer’s Pick (our choice), you can still add on other items as you wish.  We have a set number of the Farmer’s Pick boxes each week, based on availability and recent interest, and being a member doesn’t guarantee you one.  They’re available on a first-come, first-served basis, just like everything else in the store, and just like items at a regular farmer’s market.

Is there a limit to how much or how little I can order when I go into the store?
No.  Order a lot or a little, it’s up to you.  We do ask that you only place one order per week, though.  However, there are a few items on which we may occasionally put an order limit so that all the members have an opportunity to enjoy.

Can I cancel my order after placing it if something else comes up on the pick-up day?
Yes, but only while the store is still open.

When and where do I pick up my order?
We utilize two drop-off points in the city of Wichita.  You will be given the option to choose where you would like to pick up your produce.  Our drop-off days are Thursdays, and the time is either 5:00 - 6:00pm or  6:30 - 7:30pm.

How can I find out what my account balance is?
You will be able to see the balance of your account at all times by signing in to your account on the online store.

How long is the CSA season?
Our main season is the main growing season (June - October), but we continue growing in our hoop houses and low tunnels until about Christmas.  Deliveries are less frequent in the cold season, but are weekly during the warm months.  The season begins in mid-June (earlier if the growing conditions permit) and will continue through about mid-December.  We are working to extend the vegetable season year round, and though they slow down in the winter, chickens are always laying!  Keep ordering until you use up your balance.  If you want to continue after you use up your initial $300, "re-up" for another $300 and keep ordering.  Funds must be used within 12 months or they expire (see next FAQ), and we give no refunds on unused portions of your balance.

How long does my CSA membership last if I don’t order for a long time?
Membership is indefinite, as long as you order at least once every 12 months.  If your account ever comes near that time, we will e-mail you a reminder, and if we don’t get an order or hear back from you, your account will be closed and any balance forfeited.  You may keep "re-upping" your account all year, but any particular deposit must be used within 12 months, or forfeited.  This is done for two reasons.  First, it encourages our members to remain active and adventurous with their vegetable purchases throughout the diverse seasons.  Second, in case of crop failures (or epic grasshoppers), it shares a little of our risk and avoids escalating carry-over account balances.  Of course, we will do everything within our power to provide enough, because without you, our happy members, we can't keep farming!

What if I don’t pick up my order?
We donate that produce to local needy families.  You are still charged for items ordered but not picked up.

If I miss the ordering time slot, can I call in or email you my order?
Nope.  The store manages all the inventory and we can't place orders for you.  No phone orders, no email orders, no standing orders.  Get your order placed in the store during its open hours or visit the on-farm store anytime during the day and have your produce debited from your account.

Can I visit the farm?
Sure, we love guests!  Most years we have an open house so you can see our place.  If you are traveling this way, call and we’ll try to make arrangements to have you visit.  We also plan to host several "Farm Days" each year so that patrons can visit the farm and do some pick-your-own items on the farm (green beans, strawberries, large watermelons, pumpkins, etc.).  Bring a picnic lunch and enjoy the peaceful countryside.

Do we have to do a work share at your farm, like some other CSAs do?
No... But, we won't turn down those who want to volunteer.!

If I am going to move away from the area, what can I do with any remaining balance in my account?
As stated above, there are no refunds.  You may transfer your balance to an existing member or person on our waiting list (contact us for this), or donate the remainder to the CSA.
